OYEHUT — On Homecoming Night, North Beach found its rushing offense to its liking, rushing for 426 yards in rainy 56-0 romp over Ocosta in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division win on Friday.
Quarterback Brenden Cheney accounted for six touchdowns for the Hyaks (1-1, 3-3) — four rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns — to go with his 176 yards rushing on 25 attempts and 114 yards passing on 8-of-13 attempts.
Ben Poplin finished with four touchdowns, including touchdown catches of 21 and 10 yards from Cheney and scoring runs of 1 and 2 yards.
Patrick Day-Heyd added 132 yards rushing on six attempts and one two-point conversion.
“I really want to pay tribute to (assistant coach) Hugh Wyatt, who is always tweaking the offense to match the players,” North Beach head coach Todd Bridge said. “Our defense was very effective. (Cornerbacks) Carlos Robles and Elijah Ewing did a great job of stopping (Ocosta’s) long passes.”
Diego Gonzalez and Olivia Harnagy were named the Homecoming Court at halftime. Junior Royalty: Mick Igo and Tawni Blankenship; Sophomore Royalty: Korrey Housel and Taylor Eang; and Freshman Royalty: Desmond Pope and Lorin Cox.
On Friday, North Beach travels to South Bend, while Ocosta (0-2, 2-3) hosts Raymond.
