Basketball roudup: Lady Hyaks eliminated by late rally

Taholah teams prevail

MONTESANO — Leading by seven after three quarters, North Beach was unable to hold off Mossyrock’s rally in the fourth quarter to fall 48-46 in a loser-out contest on Monday evening.

The Hyaks led, 36-29, after three. Then, a series of Hyak turnovers and offensive rebounds by the Loggers helped erase the deficit.

“A couple of turnovers here, offensive rebounds there, and all of a sudden, they hit a 3 to come back and tie the game,” North Beach head coach Larry Moore said. “The girls played hard, but we needed to take care of the ball better, rebound better.”

Reilly Moore led with 13 points and Helen Garman added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hyaks (13-10).

The North Beach girls basketball team also had a rough Saturday evening during the District IV 2B championship quarterfinals at Montesano.

The Hyaks took on second-ranked Wahkiakum, the Central 2B League champions, and couldn’t slow them down in a 77-48 loss.

Coach Moore cited his three seniors — Reilly Moore, Hannah Avery and Helen Garman — for their hard work this season and in their basketball careers.

“I’m proud of our girls. We didn’t let up in effort,” Moore said.
