Five concrete girders — each about 120 feet long — for the new Razor Clam Bridge project were moved flawlessly through Ocean Shores on Friday morning and hoisted into place throughout the afternoon.
Concerns about difficulty navigating the trucks through the roundabout proved to be unfounded, and the last girder arrived on site in the south part of the peninsula at about 9:20 a.m. The project and movement of the girders did cause some residential street disruption, but otherwise no other traffic incidents were reported.
The project is replacing the old timber bridge with a new concrete girder bridge. The old bridge was closed in 2012 because of structural deficiencies.
The city was authorized to replace the bridge under a Washington State Department of Transportation grant, and design and permitting activities were completed in 2016.
After a bidding process, the low bidder was Cascade Bridge LLC from Vancouver, WA, and the City Council approved the awarding of $2.19 million for the work in June.
