Ocean Shores voters will get a chance to ask questions and hear from both candidates for mayor and the five contested races for City Council at a candidate question-and-answer forum Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.
This event is being sponsored by The Daily World/North Coast News, KOSW Radio 93.1 and North Beach Community TV, with Ocean Shores-based attorney Mike Valdez acting as moderator.
Organizers are setting aside three hours for the event, which will include a chance to meet candidates beforehand and a chance to submit written questions. The questions will be screened and sorted to avoid duplication.
Here’s a schedule for the evening:
6 – 6:45 p.m. — The public can meet the candidates and submit questions.
6:45 – 7:00 p.m. Questions are screened and sorted by issue by the Question Manager.
7 – 7:15 p.m. Welcome from the moderator, along with introductions and explanation of the rules.
7:15 – 7:30 p.m. Candidates give opening statements.
7:30 – 8:40 p.m. Candidates answer questions posed by the moderator.
8:40 – 9:00 p.m. Candidates offer closing remarks
Candidates will have the opportunity to display campaign materials at a table set aside for each position on the ballot.
Political signs and banners won’t be allowed, but audience members may wear buttons or T-shirts endorsing their candidates.
Candidates must appear in person. Surrogates will not be allowed to speak on behalf of candidates and all invited candidates will be allowed to speak, regardless of whether his or her opponent participates.
