The Ocean Shores Fire Department was called on to fight two residential fires over the Thanksgiving week, culminating with a large RV fire Thanksgiving day that threatened an adjacent home.
On Nov. 23, the Fire Department was called out to the RV fire in the 300 block of Seashore Street at 4:27 p.m.
At that time, a medical emergency was occurring where two firefighters were transporting a patient to Grays Harbor Community Hospital, according to a Fire Department report. With two full-time firefighters and one volunteer, Engine 71 responded to the fire, along with one firefighter from home, and Aid 731 from Fire District No. 7 also responded with one firefighter.
“Engine 71 arrived to find a Recreational Vehicle fully involved with fire next to a house,” the report said. “Many concerned occupants were outside, including neighbors. The Ocean Shores Police Department created a safe space for the Ocean Shores Fire Department to work around as well as a safe place for the owners, occupants, and onlookers.”
The fire was 95 percent extinguished with the deck gun on the engine, which initially spared further damage to the house. “Once the environment became less dangerous, an initial attack team of two was able to fully extinguish the fire,” the report said. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
