NCN911: Sgt. McManus honored for 30 years on force

Weekly police log includes theft of lumber from work site.

Sgt. Dave McManus started his law enforcement career right here at home in Ocean Shores.

That was more than 30 years ago, and McManus on Sept. 25 was honored by the Ocean Shores City Council and Police Chief Neccie Logan in a ceremony at the Convention Center.

“Sgt. McManus has lived in the Ocean Shores area since he was 10 years old,” Logan noted. “He has a true passion and love for the city and its history.”

McManus began his career for the city in January 1986, when he was hired as a reserve Police officer and part-time dispatcher. That November, he became a full-time dispatcher and continued as a reserve officer. In August 1987, he was sworn in as a full time Police officer.

McManus also received a medal of valor in 1987 for rescuing a suspect who drove his vehicle into the ocean, Logan said. He was promoted to sergeant in 2007.

“During his 30 years of service, he has served as a detective, where he has been the lead in some of the department’s most difficult and complex investigations,” Logan said.

McManus also is in charge of the department’s reserve officer program and is the evidence officer, crime scene technician, and public information officer.

“Sgt. McManus has been a great asset to this department over the years, and it is a true honor to work with him,” Logan said as McManus got a standing ovation from the City Council and citizens in attendance.
