A 31-year-old woman died at the scene and three other people, including two children, were seriously injured Saturday night in a collision that is being investigated as a vehicular homicide on State Route 109 about 3.5 miles northwest of Hoquiam.
The State Patrol reported the accident occurred about 9:40 p.m. when a BMW 540 driven by a 30-year-old Belfair man was northbound on SR 109 and passed another vehicle that was not involved in the collision. The BMW then struck a Dodge Neon in the southbound lane, left the roadway and came to rest on its side.
The Dodge ended up in the middle of SR 109, and the roadway was blocked for more than six hours, the State Patrol reported.
In addition to the woman who died at the scene, a 12-year-old boy was airlifted to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, and a 6-year-old girl was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Also, a 30-year-old woman passenger in the BMW was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A State Patrol report said drugs or alcohol was involved, and Allen J. Spencer, the driver from Belfair, was listed as being charged with vehicular homicide. The family of the injured children have requested that their names and city of residence not be disclosed, the State Patrol said.
