Sound Publishing has named Mike Hrycko publisher of The Daily World, The North Coast News and the other publications in the Grays Harbor Newspaper Group.
The other papers are weeklies: The Vidette, The South Beach Bulletin, Pacific County Press, East County News and On The Harbors.
“I am pleased to put the day-to-day operations of our newspapers in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties in Mike’s capable hands,” said Sound Publishing Vice President Terry Ward.
“Mike’s background in print and digital media coupled with his energetic enthusiasm will serve our readers and advertisers well.”
Hrycko (pronounced RY-ko) is from Chicago and got his start in the industry there with Nadig Newspapers. His background is in advertising and circulation. He was director of circulation for Yankton Media in South Dakota and then came west to work as director of advertising and circulation at The World in Coos Bay, Oregon. He served most recently as corporate circulation director with Western Communications, based at its flagship newspaper in Bend, Oregon.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Sound Publishing and the Grays Harbor News Group,” Hrycko said. “The Daily World is an outstanding local newspaper with a long and storied history, just like the community it serves.
“Local newspapers are part of the fabric that holds communities such as Grays Harbor together,” he added. “I’m honored to be able to continue the tradition of delivering high-quality local news and sports in both print and online well into the future.”
Hrycko replaces Stan Woody, who was publisher from 2015 until last month.
