Flag Day Parade
needs help
The Action Committee for Tourism in Ocean Shores has disbanded, and one of the casualties may be the annual Flag Day Parade. Cheryl Turner, manager of the Ocean Shores Convention Center, wrote in an email last week, “the Parade is in jeopardy” and the event “is desperately seeking a new promoter or promoters.”
Interviewed later, Turner said the event showcases “the diversity of our community and surrounding communities.” She also cited it as an example of multiple agencies and entities — the city’s public safety and street departments, the Convention Center and the city-owned KOSW radio station, all working with volunteers “for the success of this iconic event,” that has taken place in downtown Ocean Shores for a quarter-century.
Turner suggested that “maybe a combination of groups or individuals would lend more sustainability to the event instead of relying on just a handful of dedicated individuals,” and asked that people “talk to your friends and any organizations you may belong to and see if a team could be pulled together to keep our Parade on our event schedule.”
She said anyone interested or seeking more information should call her at the Convention Center, 360-289-4411.

Moclips Museum
zoning meeting
The next phase of the new Museum of the North Beach depot project in Moclips is the approval of a conditional use permit. The new museum property is zoned (R3) Residential. Grays Harbor County has no category for museums so it is necessary that the new property be zoned for retail/gift shops. There will be a public meeting on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m. by the Grays Harbor County Board of Adjustment in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the County Administration Building in Montesano. Comments can be submitted in writing and should be addressed to Alice Shawyer, Grays Harbor County Planning Division, 100 W. Broadway, Suite 31, Montesano, WA, 98563 or email ashawyer@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.
Hydrant flushing
Ocean Shores Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the southeastern areas of the city in October. Work will be conducted in the vicinity of Mt. Olympus Ave. and Quinault Ave. from Cape Alava St. SE to Cakesosta St. SE on Oct. 10-11; and in the vicinity of Falls of Clyde Dr., Mt. Olympus Ave., Albion Ave., and Island Circle from Cakesosta St. SE to Discovery Ave. SE on Oct. 24-2. The city recommends you do not use hot water during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the days shown. If you experience discoloration of your water, please run the COLD water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If you must use hot water during flushing operations, you should flush your hot water tank after operations are complete. A map of the work area can be viewed at www.osgov.com.
