Hydrant flushing
The Ocean Shores Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the southwestern areas of the city in October. Work will be conducted in the vicinity of Pt. Brown Ave. and Wawona St., from S. Razor Clam Dr. to Discovery Ave., on Oct. 11-12; and from Butterclam St. SW to Marine View Drive on Oct. 25-26. It is common for flushing activities to stir up sediment in the water lines surrounding the work areas. The city recommends you do not use hot water during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the days of service. If you experience discoloration of your water, please run the COLD water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If you must use hot water during flushing operations, the city recommends flushing your hot water tank after operations are complete.

Interpretive Center meeting
The annual membership meeting of the Coastal Interpretive Center is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct.15 at the VFW hall in Ocean Shores, 953 Trent Ct SE.
Members will hear annual financial and activity reports from the Board and Center staff. The primary business of the meeting will be to elect members to the Board of Directors and act on a proposed amendment to the Bylaws.
The Annual CIC Board of Directors Meeting will follow immediately after the membership meeting. The primary business of this meeting will be the election of Board officers.

North Beach Singers

Spay/Neuter clinic
A North Beach PAWS free spay/neuter clinics for pets of low-income North Beach residents will be on Oct. 22. Clinic sign ups will be held at the North Beach PAWS dog house on Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Provide verification of address, yearly income, and pet information, including: breed, age, and weight at sign-up. Do not bring your pet. There is a limit of two pets per household. Some breed/age and other restrictions apply. The clinic is paid for by The Albohn Family Foundation and are made possible by Dr. Stacy Steele and staff at the Ocean Shores Animal Hospital. Master Gardeners
The WSU Master Gardeners First Saturday in November class will be: Native Plants — A Natural for Water-Wise, Easy-Care Gardens. The session is at 10 a.m. Nov. 5 at the WSU Extension office at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma.
This class is free, and there is no preregistration required. Come to to learn more about the advantages of integrating plants native to the Pacific Northwest into your landscape. Master Gardener Jude Armstrong, a native-plant expert and enthusiast, will lead this session. Great ShakeOut drill
Tsunami warning sirens on coastal Washington will be activated Oct. 20 in a special test that is part of the statewide Great Washington ShakeOut earthquake drill. This test, which begins at 10:20 a.m., will include the real sound of the siren – along with messages indicating it is a test.
