New glass floats to benefit Museum of North Beach

On sale March 26

The Museum of the North Beach in Moclips will host its 13th annual Avalon Glassworks Float Sale fundraiser on Sunday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The annual event offers art glass collectors and fans of the little museum the chance to buy a different glass float each year, the sales of which benefit the facility located at 4658 State Route 109, across from the Ocean Crest Resort.

Since 2005, Jon and Shannon Felix have been up extra early one Sunday each Spring, to bring hundreds of pieces of the creations from their West Seattle studio and store, Avalon Glassworks, to the North Coast. Each year, they make a new, limited edition blown glass float.

The 2017 edition is called “Agate.” It has translucent shades of amber and dark red with striations inspired by the banded layers of the natural stone. The float is 4.5 inches wide and sealed hot with a button stamped with “Moclips-by-the-Sea.” Half of the purchase price goes directly to the museum.

Almost all of the previous editions, going back to the original in 2005, have sold out. The sole exception is last year’s float, cobalt blue and white orbs named for their inspiration, “Velella.”

The couple also brings a wide variety of other glass art from Avalon, including an assortment of sea life pieces and various articles with a Northwest theme. More information is available at the website, www.avalonglassworks.com
