Library thankful

for generosity

The staff at the Ocean Shores Library would like to thank all of the generous people who donated new and gently used children’s books to give away to kids for the 4th annual Holiday Book Drive. We were able to give 90 local kids, age’s baby to 12 years, a wrapped book for the Holiday. Thank you to our volunteers who wrapped children’s books for this event, Kathleen Hansen, Kelly Osness, Bonnie Thormeyer, and Anneka van Doorninck. Much thanks also goes to the volunteers who assisted at the Kids Holiday Party, Kelly Osness, Marian Turgeon, Melissa Van Horn, and Calista Hyde. We will keep holding this book drive and distribution every year around the holidays, so we can continue to give local children the gift of reading.

Port’s new business

With the Port of Grays Harbor approving a lease last week with overstock.com, a leading online retailer, 150 jobs will be created. Overstock will be taking over an entire floor of a state-of-the-art office building built on the site of a former, never activated nuclear power plant. The company’s 20,000 square foot customer care center at the Satsop Business Park will be operating by May 2017 giving a huge economic boost to the Harbor.

According to the globalnewswire, “The online retailer selected the Grays Harbor site to help boost economic recovery in the region, which has unemployment levels higher than state and national averages. Once the location for the new facility was decided upon, Overstock worked closely with state and local officials to find a site that could provide the required high-speed telecommunication and flexible tech office space needed.”

Thank goodness the nuclear power plant wasn’t activated. Thank goodness the Port continues to actively and professionally market the Satsop Business Park. Thank goodness overstock.com saw a huge potential not only for their business, but more importantly for us here in the harbor to provide much needed jobs.

Lantern Lunch support

The Green Lantern Lunch Program would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to the community support we have recently received. The North Coast Montessori School, under the direction of Mr. Mark and Miss Jessie hosted a Harvestfest event at the Town Hall in Seabrook. The admission to the event was a donation of cash or canned goods to the GLLP. During the several hours of operation a great amount of food and cash was collected. Helping with this chore were: Valerie, Olivia, Maxx, Molly, Jane, Reagan, Finn, Carson, Bryce, and Liam. It was a joy to witness the giving spirit that prevailed. Later that same day, beginning at 6 o’clock in Humptulips, was another fundraiser. This was under the direction of Dave Crosby, owner of the Humptulips Grocery. This is the second year he has gone out of the box (so to speak) and gathered up the community to put on an amazing live auction, huge dinner and music to dance to at the Red Rooster. The owner graciously allows Dave to use his facility for this event. Dave was helped with this huge event by his loyal friends and workers, namely, Leann, Ronda, Ryan, Breanna and others to many to name. What I saw that day was a huge outpouring of community unity. Everyone came together to help further a cause dear to our hearts. The children in our community. We thank and appreciate everyone involved in these efforts and look forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come.
