Town Hall
Housing and home repair will be the subject of a town hall during the afternoon of Jan. 29 at the Ocean Shores Elementary School. The question and answer session is open to the public and will be moderated by Doreen Cato, former King County Housing Authority commissioner and current North Beach School Board member.
The program will include guests from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, local contractors and real estate representatives, local banks and mortgage companies, and community and building organizations. The event is from 1-4 p.m. at the school, 300 Mt. Olympus Ave. SE in Ocean Shores. It is citizen sponsored by the Ocean Shores Block Watch &Disaster Preparedness group.
Some of the information will include home repair programs with financing to very low income and/or elderly homeowners to repair, improve or modernize homes; health and safety hazards (ramps, hand rails, safe baths); utility hookup, installation, assessments and fees.
Benefit Spaghetti Dinner
A spaghetti dinner/auction to benefit North Beach Medical Equipment will be held Jan. 21 at Pirates Cove. North Beach Medical Equipment helps hundreds of people every month by providing free medical equipment, everything from crutches and wheelchairs, to bed pans, shower aides, walkers and canes. The silent auction will begin at 2 p.m. with dinner ($12) at 5 p.m. and a live auction at 7. To donate items for the auction, call Rich at (360) 289-3733.
Community Voices
A group called Community Voices has formed to promote ideas and innovative solutions for the city. It will meet once a month on the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting is from 10-noon Dec. 15 at the Pirates Cove Pub meeting room, 798 Ocean Shores Blvd. NW. • The Ocean Shores Food Bank at 848 Anchor Ave. NW provides regular distributions of food on the first and third Thursday of every month, from 1:30 until 5 p.m. Emergency food is available Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. by requesting assistance at the Anchor Avenue Thrift Store.
• The Copalis Community Church Food Bank is at 3140 State Route 109. Open every Wednesday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• VFW 8956 of the North Beach meets at 11 a.m. on the first Monday of the month at 953 Trent Court SE, Ocean Shores.
• North Beach Senior Resource Center and the Olympic Area Agency on Aging have a Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisor every Thursday, noon to 2 p.m. at Ocean Shores United Methodist Church, 557 Point Brown Ave. NW.
• Women Helping Women – Women alone, sharing resources, information, support and friendship – meets at noon on the second Friday of each month at the Shilo Inn on the fourth floor. No-host lunch and speaker. Call 289-3880.
• Brookdale Ocean Shores, formerly Emeritus at Harbour Pointe Shores, is offering SAIL (Staying Active and Independent for Life) exercise classes for Seniors, with instructor Daniela Werner. Death notices
• Sidney William Glessner of Copalis Beach died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was 90. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17th at New Beginnings Open Bible Fellowship located at 301 N. “B” St. in Aberdeen. Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
