The Ocean Shores Food Bank is looking for a few “talented and conscientious volunteer board members to lead and strengthen” the community organization. At this time, the specific need is for persons with financial skills (CPA, accounting); grant writing — large scale; architectural — building design; and fund raising with nonprofit experience.
The Food Bank is governed by an active and engaged board of directors that is composed of 11 people, all of whom live in Ocean Shores. The board oversees the executive director and helps raise funds to provide financial stability so the Food Bank can continue serving and caring for all our neighbors in need.
The board of directors recently developed and approved a five-year strategic plan, including a vision statement, core values and areas of strategic focus. Briefly, the core values include compassion, service innovation, partnerships and accountability. Our Vision: Everyone has sufficient, nutritious food. Our Mission: So that no one in our community goes hungry.
The following statistics may help in understanding the scope of the Food Bank’s mission. We’re an all-volunteer organization. More than 60 volunteers serve by donation 7,900 hours of their time, not only to provide food, but hope, compassion and respect to more than 460-plus households each month These households are made up of more than a thousand infants, children, adults and seniors. When we all work together — neighbors helping neighbors — no one is turned away and no one goes hungry.
The board meets once a month on the second Wednesday in the meeting room at the library. Meetings start at 10 a.m. and end promptly at noon. (During library construction, meetings to be held at Faith Community Church). If you would like to see the board in action, just stop by.
If you can contribute your time, thoughtfulness, leadership, and would like to be a part of a compassionate and dedicated team of board members, please go to our website for more information: https://oceanshoresfoodbank.org/about-2/about/.
