The Ocean Shores Fresh Waterways Corp. will be holding the third Wine & Weeds gathering at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Ocean Shores Lion’s Club (832 Ocean Shores Blvd. NW). Join for wine, snacks and an opportunity to learn what is being done to preserve the water quality of local lakes and canals. Guest speaker will be Doug Dorling, head aquatic biologist for Northwest Aquatic Eco-Systems. He will discuss the 2018 weed survey results and treatment, with a question-and-answer session following.

Yoga session

The Coastal Karma Center Yoga Studio will be holding a free yoga class on Saturday, Sept. 22, called “Souper Saturday” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. People are asked to bring two cans of soup to use in the practice and then the soup will be donated to the Ocean Shores Food Bank. Museum milestone

The Museum of the North Beach is anticipating its 50,000th visitor will sign the museum quest book by the end of September. That guest will receive a lifetime membership with Moclips by the Sea Historical Society, a 2018 edition “Lichen” Float produced by Avalon Glassworks in West Seattle and a one-night stay at the Ocean Crest Resort in an ocean-view unit with fireplace.

On January 18, 2003, the museum held its grand opening with over 250 guests in attendance. In February 2013, the museum received its 30,000th visitor who signed the guest book.

Candidates forum

Ocean Shores Block Watch will hold a candidates forum on Sunday Oct. 7 from 3-5 p.m. at the Milo Schneider/Lions Club of Ocean Shores located at 832 Ocean Shores Blvd. NW. The format for this event will include previously submitted questions from those who cannot attend and open-mic questions from the audience. Angelo Bruscas, North Coast News editor will be moderator. Doors will be open at 2 p.m., and candidates will be invited to put out materials and meet the public before the forum starts at 3. The event will be recorded by North Beach Community TV. Mass casualty drill

Volunteers are needed for the Oct. 13 mass casualty drill conducted by Grays Harbor First District No. 6. Multiple role players are needed, with family members encouraged to participate, with the minimum age of 10. All role players under the age of 16 must be with an adult family member. The drill will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with check in at 7:45 a.m. A light breakfast and full lunch will be provided at no cost. Sept. hydrant flushing

Ocean Shores Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the western areas of the city in September. Work will be conducted from Taurus Blvd. SW to Butterclam St. SW on Sept. 25-26. It is common for flushing to stir up sediment in water lines surrounding the work areas. The city recommends you do not use hot water during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the days shown. If you experience discoloration of your water, run the COLD water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If you must use hot water during flushing operations, the city strongly recommends flushing your hot water tank after operations are complete. Fire Dept. open house

The Ocean Shores Fire Department open house will be from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 11. In addition to the educational information that will be provided along with display of fire-fighting apparatus, there will be flu shots and vaccinations available. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided.

• The group Community Voices meets to discuss local issues on Thursdays at the North Beach Senior Center, 885 Ocean Shores Blvd. from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Moderated by City Council member Susan Conniry. On Sept. 20, guest speaker will be Andrew Kelly, new superintendent of the North Beach School District.

• Answers for All (AFA) meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m. at the Ocean Shores Elks Lodge, 199 Ocean Lake Way SE. Join for coffee and conversation about Ocean Shores, the North Beach and the county.
