September on the beach feels different than the summer in more ways than just the cooler temperatures and leaves changing hues. The tourists are still visiting on the weekends, but for the most part, Ocean Shores settles back into small-town life. The kids are getting into the back-to-school routine, which, of course, includes homework. Fall sports have started and thoughts turn to family gatherings and fall traditions.
At North Beach High School, football, volleyball and cross country seasons have begun. For the Hyaks football home opener, the sky was blue, the sun was shining and the air was as crisp as the cheerleader’s new uniforms. North Beach managed to come away with a win in the “never count them out” fashion we have come to expect from our team. After a long stretch on the road, the next home game won’t be until Friday Oct. 7 against rival Ocosta.
