Fourth Beach Cleanup
Volunteers are needed to help with the annual effort to clean beaches during and after the Fourth of July fireworks festivities. Larry Comparone is coordinating the effort this year, and he told the City Council that volunteers are needed both for July 4 and July 5. The city is supplying the bags.
About 30 people are needed to hand out bags on the afternoon of the 4th. “We want to cover all five ocean beach approaches in two-hour shifts,” Camparone said. Shifts start at 2 , 4 and 6 p.m. and end about 8.
“On July 5th, I am also seeking volunteers to go onto the beach and spend some time collecting refuse that is left behind,” Camparone said. Bags will be available starting at 8 a.m. that morning at the Chance a la Mer beach approach.
Volunteers can sign up to help on the Facebook Ocean Shores Block Watch page or by emailing Camparone at Whatwhere910@live.com
Van needed
The Green Lantern Lunch Program has a need for a van, and the food program for North Beach children has a donation of $1,500 to use for the purchase. If you have a dependable, working van in good condition that you would like to donate or sell to the non-profit for its summer lunch program, call Phyllis Shaughnessy, (360) 289-2971.
Hydrant flushing
Ocean Shores Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the eastern areas of the city in June. Work will be conducted from Pearsall St. NE to Wakina Loop SE on June 26-27. It is common for flushing activities to stir up sediment in the water lines surrounding the work areas. The city recommends you do not use hot water during the hours of 8 a.m and 4 p.m. on the days shown above. If you experience discoloration of your water, run the cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If you must use hot water during flushing operations, the city strongly recommends flushing your hot water tank after operations are complete. A map of the area can be viewed at www.osgov.com. If you have any questions or require additional information contact (360) 289-4210 or email mtobert@osgov.com.
