The warm, dry weather, combined with state and county burn bans, has caused a few changes for tonight’s festivities that were scheduled with the Hawks Fan Fest and Beach Party weekend.
Because State Parks has issued a ban on all fires on state beaches in the area, a permit will not be issued for the planned bonfire on the beach.
The concern also has led the city of Ocean Shores to have a planned fireworks show on the beach moved to a more fire-safe location. The Seahawks-theme fireworks show now will be staged in the parking lot next to the city Skate Park behind Shores Bowl and Bennett’s Fish Shack.
“I did not see any reason to stop the show,” Dingler said.
Mayor Crystal Dingler said Fire Chief Tom Lique met with the coordinator for the show and is familiar with the type of shows that they will do.
“Their show will have a max diameter of 75 feet,” the mayor said.” Our Fire Inspector Curt Begley and the fireworks coordinator measured out the public parking area next to the skate park and found that there is enough room to fire the show from that location. The Fire Department plans on having an engine wet the nearby grass and brush with a retardant prior to the show as an added safety buffer. We have better access around that area then we have in the dunes.”
From a water standpoint, Dingler said the city is capable of providing enough in the area if needed.
“With the heat of this weekend though, we may need to kick our storage levels up just a little bit to provide a buffer,” Dingler added.
The events for Saturday include a parade through Ocean Shores starting at 10 a.m. that includes “Hawked-out vehicles” and special celebrity guests. Seahawks celebrities then will raise the 12th man flag officially taking over Ocean Shores for the weekend.
Celebrate the inception of the original Seahawks logo with Traditional Quinault Indian Nation Native American Dancers show inside the Convention Center, followed by a traditional salmon bake.
The public can join Mamma Lynch , Mamma Sherman, Mamma Thomas and other Seahawks Mammas on Saturday for bowling with special colored pins and free raffle ticket to each participant for great prizes at Shores Bowling; or play in the Babineaux Family Foundation Celebrity 9-Hole Golf Tournament with former Seahawk Jordan Babineaux and other celebrity guests.
Sunday continues with a Celebrity Pancake Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at the Convention Center with proceeds benefiting North Beach Hyak Cheerleading.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, vendors will be at both the Ocean Shores Convention Center and QBRC. The Convention Center hosts Radio 80 as well as Aaron Crawford with The Boot Boogie Babes, a Seattle Line Dance Team (see music lineup below).
Benefactors of the event include GH Youth Athletics, North Beach Hyak Cheer and The Madeleine Project. The proceeds from the parade will go to Helping Heroes.
