The new management team at the Oyhut Bay planned beach community in Ocean Shores hosted an overflow crowd last week to tour several new developments, including a new restaurant, view bar and fitness studio.
At a Business After Hours gathering with the Ocean Shores/North Beach Chamber of Commerce, the project management team of Pat Brunstad, Mike Smith and Daniela Werner showed how the residential/vacation community had grown from its initial cottages to now include the first commercial attractions.
They announced the imminent opening of their first full-service restaurant, Oyhut Bay Bistro and Sidewalk Café, and upstairs and bar, which will be followed this spring by a coffee and gift shop. Work is currently under way on a second retail building near the main entrance on Marine View Drive. A new dock to access the Ocean Shores network of canals and lakes opens this summer.
“We appreciate all the community support and everything the city has done to help this project along,” said overall project lead Patrick Brunstad.
The new team, he said, is “looking forward to taking this thing to new levels.”
Oyhut Bay will be heading into its second full summer, and the changes were “initiated to stay responsive to our guests, our home buyers, and the greater Ocean Shores Community,” a news release said.
Community founders, Stavros and Colleen Anastasiou, retain their ownership share, but longtime Ocean Shores resident Brunstad now will have a more locally based approach to marketing and managing the project.
“Going forward, our emphasis is serving our visitors and guests as we continue to build the high quality, traditional neighborhood resort community we envisioned from the beginning. We thank the Anastasious and the team of professionals serving on the neighborhood design team which set the stage for our continued growth,” said a statement from Jeff Foushee, representing the Oyhut Bay ownership and development team.
Mayor Crystal Dingler attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony as did several City Council members, and the public was invited to tour some of the completed and furnished cottages as well as the new restaurant.
Restaurant details
The Oyhut Bay Bistro and Sidewalk Café plans to be opening Friday, April 14 with chef Doug Graybeal, who began his Northwest culinary career in 1995 at the Lake Quinault Lodge.
“Chef Graybeal has a vision for providing a casual dining style, blended with hand-crafted cuisine that lends easily to ocean beach lifestyle of Oyhut Bay and Ocean Shores. The Bistro surrounds guests with inviting warm earthy colors, textures and finishes. This décor reflects the natural surroundings found at the Oyhut Bay resort community. An open concept kitchen allows diners to more closely experience the personal touches as the cooks caringly prepare their meals,” said a news release announcing the opening.
The menu will feature entrees that include seafood, chicken, and steak with Oyhut Bay signature dishes, such as a slow smoked brisket served with young tender fingerling potatoes and a seasonal fresh vegetable.
The Bistro will be open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, year ‘round, with occasional special events.
